Why look at the price per kilogram when buying cat products?

The same product costs differently in different packs and shops. The price per kilogram shows which pack is really the cheapest.

Can I buy the product here?

No. zoogidas.lt only compares prices. The shop link takes you to the shop's own website, where you place and pay for the order.

How often are prices updated?

We collect the shops' prices every day. Each product shows when its price was last checked.

What do I need to buy before bringing a cat home?

The essentials are a litter box and litter, food and water bowls, food, a carrier, a scratching post and a few toys. A bed, a comb and nail clippers are also useful, and everything else can wait until you know the cat's habits.

What food and litter should I buy for a kitten's first days?

It is best to ask the shelter or breeder which food and litter the kitten used and keep them the same for the first weeks. Small packs are enough: once the kitten has settled in, you can gradually switch to others.

Is it worth buying expensive first items for a cat?

To start with, simple, sturdy items are enough: a litter box, bowls, a carrier and a scratching post. Invest in pricier things once you know what the cat really likes, for example whether it prefers a tall cat tree or a bed on the windowsill.

How do I prepare my flat before bringing a kitten home?

Hide cables, small objects, thread and medicines, keep the washing machine and toilet lid closed, and fit safety screens on windows you open. For the first days, set up a quiet room with litter, food, water and a hiding place.

Does a new cat need a separate room for the first days?

Most cats settle in more easily if they start out in one quiet room with everything they need. Once the cat feels safe there, you can gradually let it explore the rest of the home.

Does a kitten need different things from an adult cat?

A kitten needs a low-sided litter box, shallow bowls and smaller toys it cannot swallow. It is worth buying the scratching post, carrier and bed in adult size so you do not have to replace them soon.

When should a kitten first see a vet?

A kitten usually sees a vet within the first days or week after coming home, even if it seems healthy. The vet will examine it, set up a vaccination and deworming plan and advise on microchipping.

Is microchipping cats mandatory in Lithuania?

Yes, in Lithuania dogs, cats and ferrets must be microchipped and registered in the Pet Register. A vet does this, and a chipped and registered cat is much easier to return to its owner if it gets lost.

How can I tell which things a new cat will like?

Every cat is different: one loves high places, another hiding spots, one plays with a wand toy, another chases balls. At first buy one item of a few different types and watch what the cat enjoys before buying pricier things.

What should I take from the shelter or breeder along with a kitten?

Ask for a little of its usual food and litter and, if possible, a cloth or toy with a familiar smell. Also take the pet passport and details of vaccinations, deworming and the microchip.

Which cat products are not worth buying?

There is no need to rush into buying lots of clothes, scented litter or complicated gadgets the cat may never use. Also avoid toys with small parts that come off easily, and thread the cat could swallow.

Does a cat need a collar?

An indoor-only cat does not need a collar, especially if it is microchipped. If you choose one, it must have a safety buckle that releases if the cat gets caught on something.

For a first cat, is a kitten or an adult cat the better choice?

A kitten is playful but needs more time, care and safety measures. An adult cat's personality is already known, it is often calmer and less mischievous, so it suits busy people and first-time owners.

At what age can a kitten leave its mother?

It is usually recommended that a kitten stays with its mother until about 12 weeks. During that time it learns important social skills from its mother and littermates, and one separated too early may be more fearful or bite during play.

How does a kitten's growth in the first year affect what to buy?

In the first year a kitten grows almost to adult size, so a small litter box, collar or bed will need replacing. Choose items that will also suit an adult cat and buy kitten-specific ones only where they are really needed.

When do kittens lose their baby teeth, and do I need to buy anything?

Baby teeth are replaced by adult teeth from about 3–4 to 6–7 months. During this time kittens like to chew, so soft chew toys are useful, and cables and other dangerous items should be hidden.

Can parasite treatments for adult cats be used on a kitten?

Not always: many flea, tick and worm treatments are only for cats above a certain age or weight. Always read the label and choose the product with your vet, especially for young kittens.
