Norwegian Forest Cat

The Norwegian Forest Cat comes from the forests of Scandinavia, and its name in Norwegian simply means forest cat. The long double coat with a woolly undercoat protects against cold and damp, with a full ruff around the neck and a bushy tail. The body is large and sturdy, the head triangular with a straight profile, and the legs are long with strong claws, which makes the cat an excellent climber. Males typically weigh around 4.5 to 7.5 kilograms. In the twentieth century Norwegian breeders rebuilt and organised the breed. The temperament is friendly and calm, though the cat likes to move about and explore. Life expectancy is typically around 12 to 16 years.

Category II — Semi-longhair

Turkish Angora

The Turkish Angora takes its name from Ankara and is considered one of the oldest long-haired cat breeds. It is slimmer and more graceful than many long-haired breeds, with a fine-boned body and a wedge-shaped head with pointed ears. Adults typically weigh around 2.5 to 5.5 kilograms. The medium-length silky coat has little undercoat, so it seldom tangles and is easy to brush. The breed is often associated with white, although other colours occur. Angoras are generally active, curious and quick, and they enjoy climbing and play. Life expectancy is typically around 12 to 16 years.
