Category II — Semi-longhair
Maine Coon
The Maine Coon is a native of the northeastern United States and the state cat of Maine, and it is among the largest domestic cat breeds. Males typically weigh around 6 to 9 kilograms and mature slowly, often reaching full size only at three to five years. The long, shaggy double coat is water-resistant, fuller on the ruff, belly and tail, and the ears are tufted and the muzzle broad. Combing at least once a week keeps the coat free of tangles. The breed is known for a gentle, sociable nature, and instead of meowing it often makes a soft chirping sound. Life expectancy is typically around 12 to 15 years.
Category II — Semi-longhair
Norwegian Forest Cat
The Norwegian Forest Cat comes from the forests of Scandinavia, and its name in Norwegian simply means forest cat. The long double coat with a woolly undercoat protects against cold and damp, with a full ruff around the neck and a bushy tail. The body is large and sturdy, the head triangular with a straight profile, and the legs are long with strong claws, which makes the cat an excellent climber. Males typically weigh around 4.5 to 7.5 kilograms. In the twentieth century Norwegian breeders rebuilt and organised the breed. The temperament is friendly and calm, though the cat likes to move about and explore. Life expectancy is typically around 12 to 16 years.
