Category III — Shorthair

Bengal

The Bengal was developed in the United States by crossing a domestic cat with the Asian leopard cat, and later generations are as domestic as any other breed. The short, plush coat carries spots or a marbled pattern, and its sheen is often striking. Males typically weigh around 4.5 to 7 kilograms, on a muscular, athletic frame. The coat is easy to care for, and an occasional stroke with a brush is usually enough. It is an active, curious breed that needs space, activities and play, and some individuals also enjoy water. Owners should provide scratching posts, climbing frames and toys for its energy. Life expectancy is typically around 12 to 16 years.

Category III — Shorthair

Burmese

The Burmese was developed in the West in the twentieth century from a cat brought from Burma and its descendants, which is where the name comes from. The short, smooth, satin-like coat lies close to the body and needs almost no grooming. Burmese cats are medium-sized but surprisingly heavy for their size because they are muscular, with males typically weighing around 4 to 6 kilograms. The breed is known for being devoted, seeking human company and being talkative, and it dislikes being left alone for long. The traditional colour is a rich brown, although other shades have appeared over time. Life expectancy is typically around 12 to 16 years.
